Mission
We empower deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf–disabled individuals in Kern County by providing advocacy, communication access, peer support, independent living skills, employment assistance and community education.
Vision
A community where every person who is deaf or deaf-disabled has equal access, meaningful employment and full participation in society.
Who We Serve
We serve deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind and deaf-disabled individuals across Kern county.
B-GLAD, the Bakersfield outreach of the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness, Inc., has been serving the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing residents of Kern County since 1984. The mission of B-GLAD is to ensure equal access to the deaf and hard of hearing community to the same opportunities afforded by their hearing counterparts. The organization’s general purposes and powers are directed around the promotion of the social, recreational, cultural, educational, and vocational well-being of its deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind and deaf disabled constituents.
B-GLAD’s specific and primary purpose is to act as a coordinating agency that addresses the broad social service needs of deaf and hard of hearing people through direct service provision, advocacy, research and dissemination of information regarding deafness to parents, professionals and consumers.
B-GLAD is committed to the philosophy “…of, by, for and with the deaf and hard of hearing community.”
